Down a quiet country lane on the Inishowen Peninsula, the gates open and you arrive at The Hideaway. Rowan Tree is one of four Hideaway pods set into the gardens, with a warm welcome from your hosts and a feeling that you've found somewhere properly tucked away. The covered hot tub is a few steps from the door, the Shebeen is around the corner, and Derry city is fifteen minutes south when you fancy it.
In Irish folklore, the rowan tree is the protector — planted by old homesteads to keep them safe, said to ward off mischief and welcome only the kindly sort. We named this pod for that reason. It's the anchor of the four, set close to the ancient fairy path that winds through the gardens past the hawthorn tree and the old healing well. Guests notice the quiet straight away.
Inside, the pod is warm pine throughout, with dreamcatchers, heart mirrors, and small touches that make it feel lived-in rather than showroom. A king-size bed, a single bed for a third guest, fresh linen, heating, lighting, and everything you need to settle in and switch off. Your bathroom is in the shared facilities a few steps away, kept private and immaculate. Small non-shedding dogs are welcome — bring them along, just mention them on enquiry.
The wider Hideaway is yours to enjoy alongside our other guests: the seven-berth covered hot tub with Bluetooth speaker, the Shebeen (our BYOB social hut with pool table, dart board, karaoke and wood-burning stove), the Wee Ceili House with its open fire and pizza oven, the BBQ, the communal kitchen, and the enchanting gardens with the fairy tree, healing well, and wildlife pond.
Rowan Tree suits couples after an unfussy escape, two friends sharing with a third joining, or a Wild Atlantic Way road-tripper who wants somewhere with proper character to base from. The Walls of Derry are fifteen minutes south. Malin Head is forty-five minutes north. The Muff Liquor Company is five minutes down the road.
Booking with a group? All four pods plus the Shore House can be booked exclusively for hen parties, milestone birthdays, family gatherings, corporate retreats and wellness weekends. See our group bookings page for full-site exclusive hire from €1,150 per night.

Is the hot tub private to Rowan Tree?
The covered hot tub is shared with guests of the other three pods and the Shore House. It's seven-berth and electric, with a Bluetooth speaker, in a covered area you can use at any time. If you'd like exclusive use, book the full site (sleeps 20).
What's the minimum stay at Rowan Tree?
Two nights — same year-round, whether you're booking midweek, weekends or peak season.
Can we bring a dog to Rowan Tree?
Yes — small non-shedding dogs are welcome at all our pods. €25 per dog per stay, maximum two dogs per booking. Owners look after clean-up around the grounds, and dogs stay off beds and furniture. Mention your dog when you enquire and we'll have everything ready ahead of arrival.
