The drive down the lane to The Hideaway is the first part of the switch-off — by the time the gates open and you step out of the car, the rest of the world is already a bit further away. Sleepy Lavender is one of four pods at The Hideaway, tucked into the gardens overlooking Lough Foyle on the Inishowen Peninsula. It's the pod we send people to when they tell us they're shattered.

Lavender has been used to settle people down for as long as people have been written about. We named this pod for the same reason — it's our quiet one. It's the pod that gets booked by the person who can't remember the last time they had two nights without their phone, the couple recovering from a hard month, the friend who needs to be told to do nothing for forty-eight hours. There's nothing on the schedule and that's the point.

Inside, the pod is warm pine with soft lighting, dreamcatchers along the curved walls, and a "happy" sign at the foot of the bed that's quietly become a fan favourite. A king-size bed, a single bed, fresh linen, heating, and the kind of stillness you only really get this far north. Bathroom facilities are in our shared block a few steps away. Small non-shedding dogs are welcome — bring them along, just mention them on enquiry.

The shared site is yours to use at your own pace: the seven-berth covered hot tub with Bluetooth speaker, the Shebeen (our BYOB social hut with pool, darts, karaoke and a wood-burning stove), the Wee Ceili House with its open fire and pizza oven, the BBQ, the communal kitchen, and the enchanting gardens with the hawthorn fairy tree, healing well, and the wildlife pond where you might spot a heron at dawn if you're up for it.

Sleepy Lavender suits couples on a wind-down break, two friends in need of a proper rest, or a solo traveller making their way along the Wild Atlantic Way and looking for somewhere to genuinely stop. The Walls of Derry are fifteen minutes away. Malin Head is forty-five minutes north. Wild Ireland is fifteen minutes up the road if you fancy a wander. Minimum stay is two nights, year-round.

Are dogs welcome at Sleepy Lavender?

Yes — small non-shedding dogs are welcome at all our pods. €25 per dog per stay, with a maximum of two dogs per booking. Dogs stay off beds and furniture, and owners look after clean-up around the gardens. The fairy path and grounds are lovely for a wander.
